Ford: with a little help from Mazda
Impressive fuel economy and affordable price - these factors fueled up the demand for small subcompact cars in the US market which prompted Ford Motors Company to produce their own subcompact make to compete in the said market segment. This time, it will be designed by Mazda as reported in cnn.com.
Ford is the holder of the 33% stake in Mazda’s stocks. Ford has utilized Mazda’s concepts for its previous makes and models including the new Fusion sedan, Lincoln Zephyr and Mercury Milan. The same framework will also be used in the refreshed Lincoln MKX crossover and Ford Edge so these makes will be a combination of Japanese and American style and design.
The production of the new subcompact is part of Ford’s restructuring plan as announced last month which also includes the closing of 14 plants including those locations meant for sports utility vehicles. Bold move, but will it work to Ford’s advantage? That, we’ll have to wait and see.
